THE HISTORY
In 2017, we established Shades, a social movement rooted in highlighting Afro-millennials and sharing their stories through film and media. We have evolved into 501 C-3 non-profit organization that provides a multi-disciplinary platform for scholars, creatives, and professionals to integrate, collaborate, and build community. Our mission has always been to establish a formidable socio-cultural network and create a harness of cultural capital that will bridge and impact the African diaspora.
THE VISION
Think SXSW, Revolt, meets AfroChella! Whether it’s a scroll through black twitter or google search on cultural appropriation, we can see that there is still a significant prevalence of black cross cultural conflict. Image an interactive space where Africans and African-Americans can explore their history, address complexities, and celebrate black culture in real time.
